Peter’s newest group, the Peter Van Huffel Quartet, is partly a result of his recent move to Berlin, Germany, as well as a follow up to his long living New York Quintet. In this new project, Peter brings together musicians from various backgrounds to create a truly international project with the intention of developing a fresh new sound and direction for his music. Pianist Jesse Stacken has been a long time collaborator of Peter and a member of Peter’s New York group since 2003. Jesse is also the leader of his own trio featuring drummer Jeff Davis and bassist Eivind Opsvik, and continues to be an important member of the New York jazz scene performing in multiple collaborations such as his duo project with trumpeter Kirk Knuffke and in the collaborative quartet No Truck. Canadian bassist Miles Perkin has been a leading influence on the Montreal jazz scene for years now and his recent move to Berlin has led to a strong collaboration between himself and Peter. Miles performs in multiple projects on both sides of the ocean and is probably most noted for his work with French pianist Benoit Delbec and for his solo bass, voice and electronics performances. Drummer Samuel Rohrer, originally a native of Switzerland who spends a great deal of his time in Berlin, is also a leading force in the European jazz scene and can be heard on multiple recordings and performances with some of Europe’s leading musicians including pianist Malcolm Braff and clarinetist Claudio Puntin.

The new Peter Van Huffel Quartet has just finished recording Peter's second release for the Fresh Sound New Talent record label, "like the rusted key". This recording is due for release in Winter 2009.
